Showcasing CBA research

The CBA community gathered today for a vibrant mini-symposium, celebrating a diverse array of projects funded through the Centre for Biodiversity Analysis (CBA). The event featured short, cutting-edge talks spanning topics from thermal sensitivity frameworks across species, to the genomic identification of preserved parasites, and innovations in airborne eDNA detection.
Speakers represented the breadth and collaborative strength of the CBA network, drawing on expertise across its three partner institutions—and beyond. Attendees praised the quality and diversity of the science presented, especially considering the modest scale of CBA’s financial support.
CBA Director Justin Borevitz opened the symposium with an exciting announcement: thanks to the continued support from our three partner institutions, the CBA has secured an 18-month extension. As the CBA prepares a full re-bid for 2026, the team is seeking ideas for its future direction.
The extension did not provide full funding for all Centre activities, however the CBA will still welcome proposals for workshops, seminars and visiting scientists over 2025-26. Please get in touch with CBA Coordinator claire.stephens@anu.edu.au if you are interested.
The day also included tours of the CBA's new initiative, the Australian Biodiversity Discovery Facility. The CBA also has funding to test and develop the DiversityScanner imaging, robotics, genomics and AI pipelines. Please contact megan.head@anu.edu.au if you would like to discuss potential projects.
