New position - CBA Knowledge Exchange Specialist
A major objective of the CBA is to exchange knowledge, perspectives and challenges amongst scientists and policy makers, and find ways to effectively engage, now and into the future.
The Centre for Biodiversity Analysis (CBA) has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to play a key role in facilitating a two-way, or multiway, exchange of information between knowledge producers (biodiversity scientists at ANU, UC and CSIRO) and those who use this knowledge (environmental policy makers and managers).
The CBA is a joint initiative of the ANU, University of Canberra and CSIRO founded on world-class research strengths in evolutionary biology, genomics, bioinformatics and spatial ecology, and key infrastructure such as the National Biological Collections and cutting-edge genomic and computer laboratories.
The CBA advances the innovative capabilities in biodiversity science that are rapidly emerging at the boundaries of evolutionary biology, genomics and spatial ecology. These new concepts and tools have been heralded as having considerable potential to assist with many of the complex issues confronting policy and management, including climate change and adaptation, threatened species conservation, and biosecurity and invasive species. A major objective of the CBA therefore, is to exchange knowledge, perspectives and challenges amongst scientists and policy makers, and find ways to effectively engage, now and into the future.
The CBA Knowledge Exchange Specialist will operate at the interface of environmental science policy and research. Under the broad direction of the Director they will be responsible for facilitating a two- way, or multiway, exchange of information between knowledge producers (biodiversity scientists at ANU, UC and CSIRO) and those who use this knowledge (environmental policy makers and managers). This will require excellent understanding and the ability to develop strategies to address ‘policy pull’, that will, in combination with relevant ‘science push’, ultimately influence positive biodiversity conservation outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge in core foci of evolutionary biology, ecology, genomics, bioinformatics and/or spatial modelling. Postgraduate qualifications in science/biology will be highly regarded along with links to the government agencies.
Position description
The CBA Knowledge Exchange Specialist will be based at The Institute for Applied Ecology (IAE) at the University of Canberra. The IAE is recognised nationally and internationally as a dynamic and pro-active institute yielding excellent research, post-graduate education and leadership in effective conservation and management of our natural resources.
