Learning new tools for biosecurity applications

1 December 2022

Nanopore DNA sequencing has opened up the potential of novel biosecurity applications in every laboratory due to its portability, small foot print, and minimal capital investment required.

This 3-day intensive biosecurity-focused workshop aimed to contribute to capacity building and establish a community of practice of Nanopore sequencing focusing on biosecurity.

40 biosecurity practitioners from government agencies across Australia spent the first half of the workshop in the lab learning how to use Nanopore sequencing followed by an afternoon of short talks where participants shared their experiences using Nanopore sequencing for biosecurity applications.

Day three provided participants an introduction to downstream bioinformatic sequencing analysis using Nanopore sequence data.
