Monsoonal climate is supposed to be less 15 Myr old but in a new paper Susanne Renner argues that there are different monsoons with different histories.

She also criticises biogeographers' misinterpretations of the Tibetan Plateau uplift, which is much older than generally thought and did not necessarily trigger the monsoons.

The relationship between these phenomena is far more complex than generally thought.

Renner SS. 2016. Available data point to a 4-km-high Tibetan Plateau by 40 Ma, but 100 molecular-clock papers have linked supposed recent uplift to young node ages. Journal of Biogeography
