Applications are now open for the CSIRO Vacation Scholarships 2015/16.

Second year or higher undergraduate students at Australian universities have the opportunity of conducting their own project under the supervision of CSIRO scientists.

The purpose of the scholarships is to expose excellent students to cutting-edge research and to inspire them to pursue a career in science. Many former participants in the program now work in Australian universities or CSIRO.

The seven scholarships offered by the biological collections in this round include projects on conservation genetics, species discovery, genomics, and new methods in biogeography.

They will be hosted by the Australian National Insect Collection, the Tree Seed Centre and the Herbarium in Canberra and the Tropical Herbarium in Cairns.

The projects, which should be of particular interest to students of botany, zoology, evolutionary biology and conservation science, run from 30 November 2015 to 5 February 2016.

Applications close 16 August 2015.
