Description

The Genome Discovery Unit (GDU) is running a three day course (27 Aug, 3 Sept & 10 Sept, 9:00-12:30) introducing scripting using Python.
Bioinformatics data analysis problems that may seem insurmountable can be readily addressed with a basic understanding of how to program. For instance, converting between data formats so it's easier to load data into a spreadsheet, or even building your own pipelines. Python, a popular computer programming language, is widely available, easy to use and well suited to scientific computing including bioinformatics. The GDU's Introduction to Python Programming course teaches basic Python programming. Participants will learn fundamental programming concepts for solving useful tasks in bioinformatics.
A requirement of attending will be to have a laptop either running OSX or with VirtualBox installed. If you have questions about this, please contact Bob Buckley (bob.buckley@anu.edu.au, 6125 9289) or Cameron Jack (Cameron.Jack@anu.edu.au, 6125 1128).
