Description

In this talk, Dr Sharon Appleyard will present the molecular genetic research currently being undertaken in collaboration with staff from the Australian National Fish Collection (ANFC) and Australian National Algae Culture Collection (ANACC) to promote molecular biodiversity research and build molecular capacity in the two Hobart-based national collections.
Her aim is to create ‘framework’ DNA datasets, alongside new population and genomic resources which can be used as case studies for further development in fishes and microalgae.
Sharon will outline the different ‘genetic maturity’ of the two collections, highlight the commonalities and specifics of genetic research in the ANACC and ANFC, and touch on issues and applications that present interesting challenges for our molecular investigations.
