There have been some major recent breakthroughs on human evolutionary history.
This week we will discuss two papers by local authors:
- Argue D, Groves CP, Lee MSY, Jungers WL. 2017. The affinities of Homo floresiensis based on phylogenetic analyses of cranial, dental, and postcranial characters. Journal of Human Evolution
- Dembo M, Matzke NJ, Mooers AO, Collard M. 2015. Bayesian analysis of a morphological supermatrix sheds light on controversial fossil hominin relationships. Proc R Soc B 282(1812): 20150943.
The first paper received wide media coverage. The second reanalysed data from hominid fossils from various studies, including those on Homo floresiensis.
Meet in University House, Forrest Room (or Graduate Lounge) at 5:30 pm.
Coopers and Cladistics is a long-running evolutionary biology discussion group held every second Thursday at University House, ANU. Please contact Mike Crisp if you would like to be included on the C&C email list.
