It is becoming evident that substitution rate is a factor affecting accuracy of phylogenetic analyses using large genomic datasets.

This study uses simulation to estimate the optimal range of rates, and how they interact with tree size (number of terminals) and shape, and with rate variation among sites and lineages. The take home message is rather surprising.

Klopfstein S, Massingham T, Goldman N. 2017, in press. More on the best evolutionary rate for phylogenetic analysis. Syst. Biol.

Meet in University House in the Fellows Bar area. Look for the sign, hopefully outside Forrest Room.

Coopers and Cladistics is a long-running evolutionary biology discussion group held every second Thursday at University House, ANU. Please contact Mike Crisp if you would like to be included on the C&C email list.
