Description

Sadly, Ian Brooker, who for several decades was the peerless expert on eucalypt taxonomy, died a week ago.
So, for this week’s discussion, I am circulating Ian’s classification of the known eucalypts that he published in 2000, upon his retirement.
I am also including a critique that was published in the same issue of the journal, which mainly attacked his non-cladistic methods. The debate particularly centred on the status of Angophora relative to Eucalyptus and Corymbia.
The zipped package also includes a couple of recent molecular phylogenies (1 page each) that retrospectively clarify the relationships among those taxa.
Meet in University House, Fellows bar, at 5:30 pm. Look for the C&C sign outside either Graduate Lounge (enter from the cafeteria) or Forrest Room (enter at the north end of the bar).
Coopers and Cladistics is a long-running evolutionary biology discussion group held every second Thursday at University House, ANU. Please contact Mike Crisp if you would like to be included on the C&C email list.
